Shopping

The city has a terrific mix of high-street stores and independent retailers offering the best in up to the minute fashion and luxury goods. Specialist retailers have brought the ideal blend of choice and value right into the city centre. Shopping at Foyleside and Richmond centres includes Debenhams, Marks and Spencer as well as Miss Selfridge, Top Shop and all the other high street stores you’d expect. The surrounding streets specialise in craft jewellery, fashion and youth retail as well as a vibrant art scene, bookshop, vintage clothing and antiques market.

Richmond Centre

This multi-level Centre opened in November 1984. The Centre is located in the city centre across three levels with access via Ferryquay Street, Linenhall Street and Shipquay Street.

Open seven days per week the Richmond Centre has 39 retail units including many multinational retailers including Miss Selfridges, New Look and HMV. The Centre also houses restaurant service/facilities, telephones, disabled/public toilets, mothering room, public lift (all levels) and information point for city centre.

Opening House: Mon-Tues - (9am - 5.30pm)/ Wed-Fri 9am - 9pm/ Sat 9am - 6pm, Sun 1pm - 6pm.

Foyleside Shopping Centre

Foyleside opened in 1995 and is not only Northern Ireland ’s largest shopping centre but also the brightest and the industry leader in many areas.

Established as the main regional shopping destination for the North West of Ireland, we pride ourselves with our levels of service and facilities offered, which have been recently acknowledged by the NIRSC who awarded us the title of “Best Shopping Centre” in Northern Ireland.

Our two multi-story car parks provide approximately 1600 parking spaces with a specialist coach park facility to cater for up to eight coaches.

Museums

Steeped in history the city has won numerous awards for its depiction of its varied and exciting past.

The newly refurbished award winning Tower Museum now hosts a state of the art exhibition, An Armada Shipwreck–La Trinidad Valencera, which displays many of the artefacts recovered from the sunken ship La Trinidad Valencera.

Set within the former Londonderry Port and Harbour Commissioner’s Office the Harbour Museum features an eclectic collection of objects showing the city’s maritime connections from architectural drawings, early maps and plans of the city to archaeological finds. The centrepiece of the Museum is the 30 ft ‘Iona Curragh’, used in 1963 by a group of clerics to replicate the journey undertaken by St. Colmcille to Iona in 563 AD.

The Workhouse Museum occupies two floors of the old Workhouse building and opened in 1997. At present the exhibition includes: the Atlantic Memorial exhibition, dealing with the extensive part played by Derry in the Battle of the Atlantic during World War II: Artefacts and archives on display throughout the building relating to Workhouse life, 19th century poverty and the Famine.

17th March - St Patricks Day Spring Carnival

6-9th April - Meteor Circuit of Ireland International Rally

27th June - Celtronic Festival
One of Ireland's premier dance music festivals which take place in the city annually - not to be missed!

7th July - Foyle Regatta
The annual Foyle Regatta is for baoting enthusiasts and land-lubbers alike. the Regatta will include sailboat events, tall ships, shoreside activities, music and street entertainment with something for everyone. The Regatta is part of the city's Foyle Days calendar - a series of events, which will focus on water-based activities.

The Banks of the Foyle Hallowe’en Carnival
A feast of special events centred around 'Ireland's first and number one Hallowe’en Carnival'.
