The Bamboos Take Derry By Storm At Jazz FestivalThursday, 26 April 2007The Bamboos are set to shake things up at the 6th City of Derry Jazz and Big Band Festival, which takes place in the city during the Bank Holiday weekend from Thursday 3rd - Sunday 6th May 2007, when the Funk Wizards of Oz will be appearing at Sandinos on Friday 4th May at 9.30pm. The Bamboos' brand of deep funk - raw drum breaks, blasting horns, bass-heavy grooves and dirty organ chops - is inspired by the classic funk, northern soul, jazz, latin and boogaloo of artists such as the late great James Brown, Roy Ayers, Melvin Sparks, The Meters and other Funk originators of the 60's and 70's. The festival organisers say they are confident that the Bamboos’ unique style is expected to prove a bit hit with jazz lovers. “The Bamboos are young, talented and totally unique and they’re developing a huge following in their native Australia and beyond. I know they’ll definitely have the crowd jumpin’ in Sandinos during the Jazz Festival! If you’re looking for something totally fresh, fast, furious and cutting edge then The Bamboos has to be top of the list!” The seven piece ticking 'Funkbomb' consists of Lance Ferguson, (Guitar); Ben Grayson, (Hammond Organ); Ant Delecca, (Sax/Flute); Yuri Pavlinov, (Bass) Daniel Farrugia, (Drums) and Ross Irwin, (Trumpet/Tambourine). Their style is in the form of an extended mix tape, rolling their tracks together with whiplash funk breaks for maximum dancefloor pressure. This nugget of a live show should not be missed!! Vinyl support on the night will be from kwaME. Tickets for the Bamboos are available at Sandinos, Water Street in
Derry. For more information about The Bamboos and other performers at
