Soulful Songstress Woos Derry Audience

Music lovers of all styles and genres can’t fail to be seduced by the smooth vocal talents of Siobhán Pettit, one of the big talents taking part in the 6th City of Derry Jazz and Big Band Festival which takes place during the Bank Holiday weekend from Thursday 3rd - Sunday 6th May 2007. She’ll be playing at the Waterside Theatre on Friday 4th May accompanied by her band and playing a range of material with a strong jazz influence.

An experienced performer, Siobhán has sung for President Clinton and appeared numerous times on Irish TV. She is also an inspired and compelling interpreter of song. Her latest CD, Long Ago Tomorrow is her interpretation of the songs of Burt Bacharach.

One of the festival organisers said the Council was delighted to have an Siobhan Petit performing as part of the festival.

“Siobhán is typical of the calibre of artist we’re attracting to the Jazz Festival. Not only is she a great Irish talent but she exudes a charisma and passion in her performance which enthrals her audience. Music lovers are in for a treat when she performs at the Waterside Theatre and I’m sure she’ll leave them wanting more!”

Siobhán loves the songs and music of Janis Ian, Randy Newman, Tom Waits and particularly Burt Bacharach's work with Hal David and Elvis Costello. Music lovers will be treated to her unique interpretation of many of their songs as well as her own arrangements.

Also performing at the Waterside Theatre on the same evening will be The Derry Jazz Quartet with special guest Roy Williams, one of Europe’s leading trombonists. Expect an evening with a wide range of musical styles and influenceswhich will surprise, entertain and inspire. The evening will be hosted by writer and broadcaster Frank Galligan.
