Get into the swing of things with The Glenn Miller Orchestra

Enjoy all aspects of jazz and swing with a tribute to the music of Glenn Miller with the Glenn Miller Orchestra. This 20-piece orchestra will be playing in the Millennium Forum on Sunday 6th May at 8.00pm as part of this year’s Jazz and Big Band Festival.

Led by Glenn Miller’s nephew John, with special guest vocalist Fiona Paige, the show will feature an evening of all the Miller classics. Listen out for ‘In The Mood’, ‘Moonlight Serenade’, ‘American Patrol’, ‘Tuxedo Junction’, ‘String of Pearls’, ‘Pennsylvania 65000’, plus many more.

Welcoming the orchestra to Derry, Gerald McColgan, Heads of Festival and Events at Derry City Council said:

“The Miller Orchestra is one of the most respected and well known Big Bands from the Big Band era. And I’m delighted that they’re taking part in the 6th City of Derry Jazz and Big Band Festival.

“The Miller family has always been associated with music and is renowned for some of the most fantastic sounds over the last fifty years. Their showmanship and rapport with the audience is second to none.

“I’m sure everyone who sees them at the Millennium Forum is in for a treat.”

The Millennium Forum show will feature guest vocalist, Fiona Paige. Fiona is at the centre of the great Modernaires numbers like Chattanooga Choo Choo and I’ve Gotta Gal In Kalamazoo. With a background in dance, Fiona brings years of professionalism, energy and an extra dimension and definition to the term Big Band Singer.

The Orchestra has extensively toured in the UK, France, Belgium, The Canary Islands and Scandinavia, recreating the classical Glenn Miller sound for the pleasure of thousands of listeners and keeping alive the family connection with the music of his uncle Glenn.
