Puppini Sisters set for City of Culture Grand Vintage Ball

29 January 2013

Following their recent collaboration with Michael Bublé the globally renowned swing-pop trio, the Puppini Sisters will make their way to Derry~Londonderry to headline the Grand Vintage Ball in The Venue on Saturday, May 4 during the City of Derry Jazz and Big Band Festival weekend. As part of the UK City of Culture programme the whole weekend will see a celebration of the city’s cultural past in a throwback to the styles, trends and fashions of the 1920s-1960s.

Glamour, great music, dancing and fun are guaranteed as you jive, waltz and lindy-hop the night away. Don’t be put off if you don’t know the moves because Culture Company will be offering dance classes in the eight weeks running up to the big night. To ensure that your attire is original and authentically vintage, alteration classes will also be on offer for four weeks in April, details of which will be posted online nearer to the time.

To enjoy the full experience families can come along to Ebrington Square on the afternoon of May 4 for a festival of all things vintage where there will be opportunities for kids to take part in activities and for the ladies to get their hair and makeup perfected ahead of the ball.

If you cannot make the Saturday festivities then Sunday may be the day for you when the vintage fair moves Cityside to Pump Street and London Street. Between 11am and 6pm vintage enthusiasts and casual admirers of all things retro can browse the Vintage Fair and sample the food, fashion, design, music and culture of bygone days.

Elaine Griffin from Derry City Council said that the Grand Vintage Ball is a great addition to the Jazz Festival weekend, “We are delighted with this latest addition to the Jazz festival line up which is sure to add a great element of fun, colour and something that little bit different for festival goers. The opportunity to enjoy dancing and socialising in the great new space that is The Venue will be most welcome by a lot of people and will create a fantastic buzz in and around Ebrington Square over the weekend.”

Tickets for the Grand Vintage Ball will go on sale this Thursday 31 January at 9.30am priced at £19.50. They will be available through the Millennium Forum box office, the official City of Culture ticket provider. For more information visit www.cityofculture2013.com
