The Festival which runs from April 29th to May 3rd, sees over 300 musicians descending on the city to perform in over 75 venues.
Mayor of Derry, Paul Fleming, said: “It was a real pleasure to present Bill Wyman with the International Music Award at this year’s festival. As a former member of the Rolling Stones – one of the biggest bands in the world - Bill Wyman is a living legend and the reaction of the audience to his gigs was fantastic.”
When it comes to good time R&B, played by top class musicians, you can’t beat the sound of Bill Wyman’s Rhythm Kings. It has been said many times that what Bill brought to the Stones was electricity, and what he and Charlie Watts provided was a rhythm section that was rock solid.
After Bill left the Rolling Stones, the bass player set about forming his own all-star band. As well as touring the world, The Rhythm Kings have released a succession of albums and built up a loyal following of fans on the live circuit where their varied repertoire and world class musicianship has delighted audiences and critics alike.
The stellar line-up for the gig included another living legend in Georgie Fame, as well as Beverley Skeete, Geraint Watkins, Graham Broad, Terry taylor, Nick Payn and Frank Mead.
This festival is arranged for you by Derry City Council in partnership with DCAL/NITB’s Major Events Fundand Diageo/Guinness.
