Gay Mc Intyre

Gay Mc IntyreOne of Ireland’s most celebrated jazz musicians Gay McIntyre, joins Linley on After Midnight to celebrate the launch of his debut album, The Music Within Me, at the tender age of 77. Gay is the father of jazz saxophone in Ireland with a career spanning 60 years in which time he has played opposite Dave Brubeck and Nat King Cole and been a core inspiration behind the establishment of the hugely successful Derry Jazz Festival. Still getting up at the crack of dawn to start his daily practice regime at the Music Department of the University of Ulster Magee, The Music Within Me features many of the standards that people will associate with Gay, played with that passion and ability to emotionally connect that is instantly recognisable in his playing. The show celebrates his life, his enthusiasm for music and discovers what drives a man who is still as consumed by music as he was the day he first picked up a clarinet.
